Dear Laz - I just wanted you to know how happy I am that you and Bubblegum Lemonade are back with new music; I feel like it’s been a few years since we last spent time together. There’s something so timeless about the way you construct your songs that inevitably leaves them stuck in my brain. On first listen, people might overlook the way you add in these textured vocal harmonies for emphasis in “Our Mother’s House;” it’s so light that one might barely notice if they’re staring out the window nostalgically…as many of your fans are likely to do. I’m so excited that Desperately Seeking Sunshine is right around the corner (via Matinee Recordings), but I’m even more thankful that you tossed in some exclusive B-sides on this EP. To our way of thinking it has been too long, way too long, since Laz McCluskey, aka Bubblegum Lemonade, has released some new music. Fortunately, Laz has resolved the matter before we had to have a word with him about the lack of production. In fact, the Glasgow musician is making up for lost time with a new album titled Desperately Seeking Sunshine due for an April release via Matinee Recordings, and preceded by the three-track Our Mother's House EP. The digital-only EP is a prequel of sorts, with the title track also doing dual duty as the first single from the album. The two B-sides are only available on the EP however. The 'Our Mother’s House' EP is the prequel to the forthcoming album on Matinée Recordings titled 'Desperately Seeking Sunshine' which is out next month. The title track appears on the said long player whilst the two additional tracks 'Barely Regal' and 'When Life Gives You Lemons' are exclusive to this EP. Crema de la fina desde Escocia una vez más, en esta ocasión de la mano del talentoso Lawrence ‘Laz’ McCluskey y su más que infeccioso proyecto Bubblegum Lemonade, que acaba de editar el EP Our mother’s house (2019), a través del recomendable sello Matinée Records, como aperitivo del álbum Desperately Seeking Sunshine, que verá la luz este mismo mes. Otra colección de pildorazos de bubblegum pop sesentero que hará las delicias de los paladares más exigentes gracias a sus dulces melodías, sus pegadizas armonías vocales y unas cálidas guitarras herederas de The Byrds o de sus compatriotas Teenage Fanclub. Tomando su nombre de un álbum de Mama Cass, el escocés debutó hace una década con el EP Ten Years Younger (2008) y bien a través de Bubblegum Lemonade o de su otro proyecto, Strawberry Whiplash, sigue demostrando su querencia por las melodías guitarreras, como podemos comprobar en el homónimo single de adelanto de su nuevo EP, que viene acompañado de dos caras B (Barely legal y When life give you lemons), no incluidas en el álbum y de una notable calidad. Pero hoy vengo con un EP de Bubblegum Lemonade, que en realidad es un single de adelanto de su futuro nuevo trabajo, pero donde ha querido meter 3 cortes y le ha quedado en formato EP, siempre bajo la atenta mirada de Matinée Recordings, que en esto, tienen buen ojo. Los que habéis leído alguna ve el blog ya sabéis lo que me gusta el indie-pop con guitarras jangle de este escocés, 'Laz' McCluskey, cuya mayor influencia son The Byrds. En Our mother's house, este EP sigue esa línea y la canción homónima que irá en el futuro disco es una maravilla joya del pop de esas que suele hacer. Además, Bubblegum Lemonade completa el lanzamiento con dos caras B que son preciosas y que no irán en el álbum Desperately seeking sunshine, cuyo título me viene como anillo al dedo en estos días de incertidumbre y de ganas de verano.   --Nebrija Records Blog
